Adult ADHD Testing

ADHD, or attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, is a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. While ADHD is typically associated with children, it is estimated that up to 60% of children with ADHD will continue to experience symptoms in adulthood. Adults with ADHD may struggle with organizing tasks, managing time, maintaining focus, and controlling impulsive behavior, which can significantly impact their personal and professional lives. Treatment for adult ADHD may involve medication, therapy, or a combination of both, and can help individuals improve their ability to function and achieve their goals.

Neuropsychological evaluation for adult ADHD…what’s involved?

Neuropsychological evaluation is a comprehensive assessment of an individual's cognitive, behavioral, and emotional functioning. The evaluation process typically involves several steps:

  • Initial interview: Dr. Miller will conduct a thorough interview with the individual to gather information about their medical history, symptoms, and other relevant factors.
  • Testing: The individual will undergo a battery of tests designed to assess their cognitive functioning, including tests of attention, memory, executive function, and other relevant domains.
  • Self-report measures: The individual may be asked to complete self-report measures that assess symptoms of ADHD and other mental health conditions.
  • Collateral information: Dr. Miller may also gather information from family members, friends, or other individuals who are familiar with the individual's behavior and symptoms.
  • Integration and interpretation: Dr. Miller will analyze the data from the assessment and integrate the results to form a comprehensive picture of the individual's functioning. She will then interpret the results, considering the individual's symptoms, history, and other relevant factors.
  • Report and feedback: Finally, Dr. Miller will provide a written report summarizing the results of the evaluation, along with recommendations for treatment and accommodations.

Overall, a neuropsychological evaluation can be a valuable tool for diagnosing ADHD in adults and identifying individual strengths and weaknesses, which can inform treatment and support.
