Neuropsychological Evaluation

Neuropsychological evaluation includes an interview with parent(s) about the child’s developmental history, observation of and interview with the child, and testing. The testing portion of the evaluation involves examining thinking, behavior, and social-emotional functioning. The evaluation uses standardized tests and procedures and tests may be performed using paper and pencil or on the computer. Your child will be asked many questions and to solve different types of problems. Neuropsychological evaluations typically include tests that measure the following:

  • Intellectual ability
  • Processing speed
  • Working memory
  • Attention
  • Memory
  • Executive functioning skills
  • Fine motor skills
  • Social and emotional functioning

Following the assessment, Dr. Miller will provide a comprehensive report of results and discuss the findings and recommendations.

With comprehensive assessment, parents, teachers, and other professionals working with your child (such as intervention specialists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, pediatricians, and neurologists) get the information they need to build on your child’s strengths, adapt teaching methods, and uncover the best ways for your child to take on challenging situations.

When requested, Dr. Miller can also become part of the school Individual Education Program (IEP) process, helping you and your child’s educational team to develop effective learning strategies.

Evaluations

Evaluations are individually tailored to your child’s particular issues, and common concerns for evaluation include:

  • Learning disabilities
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Dyslexia or reading delays
  • Underachievement in math
  • Writing and written expression delays
  • Low academic achievement
  • Behavior or social problems
  • Determination for Kindergarten or First Grade readiness
  • College ADA accomodations
  • Extended time accommodations for exams: SAT, ACT, LSAT, GRE, GMAT
  • Brain injuries, epilepsy, or genetic disorders
  • Sports related head injuries that seem to be affecting learning and behavior
  • Medical issues that can affect performance in school age children
