Adult ADHD Testing

ADHD, or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, is a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. While ADHD is typically associated with children, it is estimated that up to 60% of children with ADHD will continue to experience symptoms in adulthood. Adults with ADHD may struggle with organizing tasks, managing time, maintaining focus, and controlling impulsive behavior, which can significantly impact their personal and professional lives. Treatment for adult ADHD may involve medication, therapy, or a combination of both, and can help individuals improve their ability to function and achieve their goals.

Neuropsychological evaluation for adult ADHD…what’s involved?

A neuropsychological evaluation is a comprehensive assessment of an individual's cognitive, behavioral, and emotional functioning. The evaluation process typically involves several steps:

  • Initial interview: A thorough interview is conducted to gather information about medical history, symptoms, and other relevant factors.
  • Testing: The individual undergoes a series of tests assessing cognitive functions such as attention, memory, executive function, and other relevant areas.
  • Self-report measures: The individual may complete self-report assessments to evaluate ADHD symptoms and other mental health conditions.
  • Collateral information: Input may be gathered from family members, friends, or others familiar with the individual's behavior and symptoms.
  • Integration and Interpretation: The results are analyzed and interpreted, considering symptoms, history, and other relevant factors to form a comprehensive understanding of the individual's functioning.
  • Report and Feedback: A written report summarizing the evaluation results is provided, along with recommendations for treatment and accommodations.

A neuropsychological evaluation can be a valuable tool for diagnosing ADHD in adults, identifying individual strengths and challenges, and guiding effective treatment and support strategies.
