ADHD Testing

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, and/or impulsivity. Children with ADHD have trouble paying attention in class, sitting still, following instructions, or completing tasks. These challenges often impact their learning, social interactions, and daily routines. With the right support including structured routines, school accommodations, therapy, or medication children with ADHD can develop strategies to improve focus, self-control, and experience greater success at home and in school.

Neuropsychological Evaluation for ADHD – What’s Involved?

A neuropsychological evaluation is a detailed assessment that helps determine whether a child has ADHD and how it may be affecting their learning, behavior, and daily life. The evaluation process typically includes:

  • Parent Interview: Parents provide insights into the child’s developmental history, attention, behavior, and school performance.
  • Cognitive and Attention Testing: The child completes a series of standardized tasks designed to measure attention, memory, problem-solving, and impulse control.
  • Behavioral Observations: The evaluator observes the child’s focus, activity level, and response to tasks to understand how ADHD symptoms may be impacting them.
  • Parent and Teacher Questionnaires: Surveys and checklists help assess ADHD symptoms across different environments, such as home and school.
  • Integration and Interpretation: The evaluator analyzes all collected data to form a complete picture of the child’s strengths and challenges.
  • Report and Feedback: A written report summarizes the findings and provides guidance on possible treatments, school accommodations, and behavioral strategies to help the child succeed.

A neuropsychological evaluation can provide a clearer understanding of a child’s attention and behavior patterns, helping parents, teachers, and healthcare providers create an effective plan for support and intervention.
