College Accomodations

College students with disabilities may be eligible for academic accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. These accommodations can provide essential support, such as extended test time, assistive technology, or note-taking services. However, to qualify, students must submit formal documentation of their disability, which typically requires a comprehensive evaluation conducted by a qualified professional.

Unlike accommodations provided in K-12 education, college accommodations are not automatically granted and must be requested and supported by current documentation. In most cases, colleges require that evaluations be conducted within the last three years, meaning students will need a re-evaluation to maintain their eligibility for accommodations.

This assessment helps determine whether the student continues to meet the criteria for accommodations and ensures that the most appropriate support is provided. While the evaluation does not guarantee approval, it provides a thorough, individualized assessment that can be submitted as part of the accommodation request process.
